The role of Khalifa Port is to accommodate Mina Zayed’s traffic, as well as the new cargo generated by KIZAD. Khalifa Port features the latest technology and has been designed to accommodate the largest ships. With the exception of the EMAL berth, which became operational on November 3rd 2010, infrastructure for Phase 1 of the port will be completed in Q4 2012, with the initial capacity to handle two million TEUs container traffic.

The Free Port consists of 49 berths, Drafts of 8 meters can be accommodated by berths 35-39 and 46-49, and drafts of 5 meters can be accommodated by berths 3-34. Berths 1 and 2 are reserved for bunkering and berth 46 is for RORO operations.
