Designated Pilot Boarding Area
The designated pilot boarding location depends on the draught of the vessel and is between the Fairway Buoy (24° 39.15’ N 054° 14.1’E) and Zulu Buoy No.15 (24° 34.6’ N 054° 20.4 E).
The Mina Zayed Light Float / ‘Tango’ RACON Buoy is positioned at 24° 40.0’ N, 054°14.2’E (RW) L FL 10 sec. This float lies to the NW of the channel leading in to Mina Zayed at an angle of 154° True.
Designated Anchorage Area
The designated anchorage area lays approximately 5.0 NM north of Mina Zayed Racon and is enclosed by the following coordinates. The depth at the anchorage area ranges between 15 and to 25 meters.

The Port Mina Zayed approach channel commences at a distance of ~10.75 nautical miles from the Lee Breakwater with a depth of 15.0 meters. The channel starts at buoy #1 and progresses down to buoy #27. It runs in a direction of 129° – 309° True towards the port. It takes various bends from buoy #23 to the Breakwater.
The approach channel has a width of about 259 meters. At the bend, the channel widens to 463 meters.
The bottom of the channel is sand.
Harbor Area
The harbor area is a landward area within outer breakwater. It includes:
- An inner basin for port tugs and small vessels (berths 10,11,12 and13)
- An outer basin for all vessels lying between berths 1 to 9 and 14 to 21
Breakwaters:
A concrete structure to the east of Zulu Buoy #28 and to the southwest of Zulu Buoy #25. The submerged length is protected with stay-bits.
The easterly breakwater is built at an angle of 147° - 327°True and the western breakwater is built at an angle of 030° - 210°True.
